On July 30th, Billy Idol brought his hard-rocking Rebel Yell 2024 Tour to Rogers Arena in Vancouver, BC. A show filled with classic hits such as “Eyes Without a Face,” “White Wedding,” “Flesh for Fantasy,” and of course “Rebel Yell” had fans out of their seats and singing all night long.

Platinum Blonde
Idol was joined by fellow 80’s band Platinum Blonde who opened the show getting fans early on their feet to some of their biggest songs such as “Doesn’t Really Matter,” “Crying over You,” “Not in Love” and Standing in the Dark.” Founding member Mark Holmes told the crowd that the last time Billy Idol and Platinum Blonde came to Vancouver together was in 1984 performing at the UBC Arena, opening for Idol’s Rebel Yell Tour. A full circle moment as they perform on Billy Idol’s Rebel Yell 2024 Tour 40 years later.

Billy Idol
At 9:20 Idol took the stage with his talented band; Stephen McGrath (bass), Billy Morrison (guitar), Erik Eldenius (drums), Paul Trudeau (keyboards) and of course the legendary Steve Stevens (lead guitar). The night was filled with catchy choruses, groovy basslines and powerful riffs.

Don’t let Idol’s age fool you. The 68-year-old brought energy to the Vancouver crowd dancing the night away and having the fans chant back the lyrics to him. The energy in the room kept alive as Billy played hit after hit.

Longtime guitarist and songwriting partner of Billy Idol, Steve Stevens put on a show of his own throughout the night with crazy solos, playing snippets of Led Zepplin’s “Over the Hills and Far Away” and Van Halen’s “Eruption”. Steven’s riffs are some of the most recognizable in rock history from songs “Rebel Yell” and “White Wedding.”

As the night was coming to a close and the band walked off it was evident that the Vancouver crowd hadn’t had enough and was yearning for an encore. Cheers, applause and whistles filled the arena egging the band to come back on for a few more songs. The crowd roared as the stage lights lit up and Idol and his band could be seen walking back on stage. They gave the crowd what they wanted and performed “Dancing With Myself,” “Hot in the City,” and “White Wedding.”

Billy Idol proved that he’s still a rock icon. Its a testament to his 1984 album Rebel Yell standing the test of time being performed on his Rebel Yell 2024 Tour with classic hits being performed 40 years later. It was a night that will be remembered by Vancouver fans for years to come.
