Live Review – A Night of Cosmic Brilliance: Coldplay’s show in Vancouver

Coldplay‘s Music of Spheres World Tour made its second stop at BC Place in Vancouver, BC on September 23rd, 2023, and fans were in for an unforgettable evening. While the night before featured a surprise appearance by Bryan Adams, the absence of special guests on the 23rd didn’t diminish the magic that Coldplay brought to the stage.

The concert had a lot to offer, from heartfelt moments to amazing performances by the opening acts. Coldplay shared the stage with Bobby Gonz, 070 Shake, and H.E.R., and it’s safe to say that H.E.R.‘s set left an indelible mark on the audience. Her performance was nothing short of electrifying, leaving us eagerly anticipating the day she headlines her own show in Vancouver.

The main event, Coldplay, kicked off their performance with an impressive setlist that showcased their incredible catalogue and musical prowess. Divided into four acts, they took the audience on a cosmic journey that began with Act I: “Planets”. The setlist included hits like “Higher Power”, “Adventure of a Lifetime”, and “Paradise,” which had the entire stadium singing along and playing with giant balls released on the stadium floor. The emotional rendition of “The Scientist” was a nostalgic throwback that touched the hearts of long-time fans.

Act II, titled “Moons”, saw the band move to a smaller B-Stage, where they delivered an more intimate performance. “Viva la Vida” and “Hymn for the Weekend” sent chills down the spines of those in attendance. A particularly heartwarming moment was when Chris Martin invited a young fan to join them on stage and improvised a birthday song for him, leaving the audience mesmerized by his genuine kindness and spontaneity.

The journey continued with Act III: “Stars”, which featured hits like “Human Heart”, “Clocks”, and “Something Just Like This”. The band returned to the B-Stage for a soulful rendition of “Infinity Sign” and “Midnight” showcasing their adaptability and connection with the audience. “A Sky Full of Stars” brought this act to a euphoric conclusion.

Act IV, titled “Home”, began with “Sunrise” and featured a heartwarming moment on the C-Stage, where “Sparks” and “Magic” were performed with staff moved giant inflatable planets around the venue. The concert concluded with powerful renditions of “Humankind” and the timeless classic “Fix You.” The emotional depth of their performance resonated with the crowd, leaving an indelible mark on the evening.

The encore included “Biutyful” which was a touching reminder of the band’s ability to evoke emotion through their music. Coldplay‘s lead singer, Chris Martin, has an undeniable charm and connection with the audience that is both genuine and endearing.

Coldplay‘s ability to connect with their fans, take them on a cosmic journey, and evoke a wide range of emotions is what makes them one of the most beloved bands in the world. Their Music of Spheres World Tour in Vancouver was a night to remember, filled with heartwarming moments, electrifying performances, and a setlist that covered the breadth of their impressive career. Fans left BC Place with a sense of cosmic wonder, a testament to Coldplay‘s enduring ability to create musical magic.
