SE SO NEON to Release New Album and Embark on North American Tour

Published

on

Genre-defying South Korean band SE SO NEON Is set to release their long awaited new album <NOW> on August 15. Led by producer and multi-instrumentalist Soyoon Hwang, also known for her So!YoON! solo project, SE SO NEON have crafted their own brand of lo-fi and vintage sound, displaying a wide spectrum of musical influences varying from blues and psychedelic rock to new wave and synth pop. Sung primarily in Korean, their music is rooted both in the present and in nature, making <NOW> relatable regardless of any language barrier. “People will feel my energy and my soul,” Soyoon proclaims.

Pre-order <NOW> here.

In addition, SE SO NEON premieres their new single “Remember!” today alongside an English version of the track. Co-produced by Soyoon and Jon Nellen (Nick Hakim) and mixed by Nathan Boddy (Pink Pantheress, Geordie Greep), “Remember!has a dynamic and emotionally expressive tone, with significant shifts in energy throughout—ranging from gentle, introspective moments to more intense, powerful peaks. The sound is polished and immersive, with a rich stereo mix and cinematic atmosphere that conveys a heartfelt as well as nostalgic theme.

“Sadly, there are times when I come to understand myself through the death of others,” says Soyoon. “Perhaps because I haven’t experienced death very often, it seems to hit me even harder. When my friend, mentor, and respected musician, Ryuichi Sakamoto, passed away, I found myself not wanting to forget the emotions I experienced. His death left me with a determination never to forget who I am and to be able to throw myself entirely into both time and music within his support. And the way of remembering him is to hold onto this.”

The new song is also accompanied by a music video that was shot in Seoul and self-directed by Soyoon.

After releasing her second solo album, Episode1: Love, in 2023, Soyoon felt anxiety about the band’s next move. She decided she needed a change of scenery, so she traveled to New York City to work on the next phase of SE SO NEON’s music. Being in different surroundings and spending almost 10 hours a day in the studio proved invigorating and it also made her realize that she needed to worry about the future less and live in the present more. “That’s why the album title is <NOW>,” Soyoon says. “I had been thinking, ‘I’m done. I’m not going to do music anymore.’ But after that New York experience, I felt hope.”

Soyoon’s guitar playing is key to <NOW>, aiming to defy genres to create a wholly unpredictable, yet utterly natural landscape, much like the ones she marveled at as a child in Korea and as a young adult in Los Angeles. “I love nature—sky, sunshine,” she furthers. “<NOW> is about nature, because I’m from nature.”

In conjunction with the release of new music, SE SO NEON will take their lauded live show back on the road this fall with a run of headline tour dates. Kicking off on September 3, the <NOW> North American Tour will stop at iconic venues across the country, including performances at New York’s Brooklyn Steel, Los Angeles’ The Wiltern, DC’s 9:30 Club, Chicago’s Metro and many more. Full tour routing can be found below while tickets are available for purchase at sesoneon.com

SE SO NEON was formed in 2016 by Soyoon. Mirroring their sonic dexterity, the band has seen various iterations with Soyoon remaining the consistent anchor. Winning “Rookie of the Year” and “Best Rock Song of the Year” at the prestigious Korean Music Awards in their debut year, SE SO NEON instantly became a leading figure of South Korea’s indie scene.

In 2020, SE SO NEON released their EP Nonadaptation, which was featured in Pitchfork’s “The 35 Best Rock Albums of 2020” and Paste’s “The 40 Best Rock Albums of 2020.” In addition, the band was also selected as one of Fender’s “Next Artists of 2020.” SE SO NEON was also the only South Korean band to be selected for YouTube Music’s global artist development program, YouTube Music Foundry

Yesterday, eight-time GRAMMY winner Beck unveiled the stunning new surprise single, “Ride Lonesome.”

Today, Beck follows that hypnotically sublime ballad with the announcement of the Ride Lonesome Tour, a 25-date trek stopping at some of North America’s most renowned theaters and amphitheaters.

The Ride Lonesome Tour, promoted by Live Nation, will kick off September 16 at Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre, with stops including the Santa Barbara Bowl, the Greek in L.A., Red Rocks, two nights each at The Masonic in SF, Massey Hall in Toronto and the Brooklyn Paramount, and more, before concluding October 31 at The Truth in Nashville.

Tickets for Beck’s Ride Lonesome Tour go on sale Friday, April 24 at 10am local time. For further information, go to Beck.com.

Produced by Beck and Mixed by Nigel Godrich, the song “Ride Lonesome” evokes the beautiful and haunting sonic landscapes and textures of 2015 Album of the Year GRAMMY winner Morning Phase and its spiritual predecessor, 2002’s classic Sea Change—and features multiple musicians who played on those milestone releases. From the resonant acoustic guitar strains of its opening to the emotional peaks of its final chorus, this long-awaited new original composition is the first indication of a different yet familiar direction for Beck in the year ahead.

Citi is the official card of the Beck: Ride Lonesome Tour. Citi cardmembers will have access to presale tickets beginning Tuesday, April 21 at 11am local time until Thursday, April 23 at 10pm local time through the Citi Entertainment program.
