Duster at The Pearl in Vancouver
On November 17, American indie rock band Duster performed at the Pearl in Vancouver, BC, with support from Dirty Art Club.
Supporting their latest album, In Dreams, which came out earlier this year, the band took the crowd on a journey through their expansive catalog. Kicking off with the iconic “The Twins / Romantica,” they flowed effortlessly into tracks like “Making Room,” “Chocolate and Mint,” and “Starting to Fall.”
The visuals were a perfect match for their sound. Lights in shades of red, green, blue, and white bathed the stage. The band members each had their own energy, jamming and moving across the stage, clearly feeling the music as much as the audience.
The crowd was a mix of longtime fans and younger ones, all swaying together in a shared appreciation for Duster’s unique sound. Their sombre, spacey melodies filled the room, creating an almost hypnotic atmosphere. Clay Parton and Canaan Dove Amber delivered every note with precision, and the result was something that felt intimate yet massive.
Duster reminded everyone why they’re still such a big deal in the slowcore scene. The show was chill, moving, and impossible to look away from—a perfect night for fans new and old.

Twin Temple at the Vogue Theatre in Vancouver

Are you looking for something a little different from your average rock concert? Do you value presentation and flair over more traditional stage shows? Have you heard the good word that is Twin Temple? Oh, you have?
“Praise Satan!”
We’re ashamed to say we were unaware of Twin Temple‘s game until earlier this year when they were suddenly dropped from country singer Charlie Crockett’s tour because of Temple‘s “Satanic imagery.” If only there was some way for Charlie’s team to vet their opening acts! Sneaky, sneaky satanists. On the upside, they opened for Jack White instead, which you have to admit is an upgrade.
This week Twin Temple brought their “Doomed Lovers” tour and unique brand of satanic doo-wop to Vancouver’s Vogue Theatre. Opening their show with pomp and ceremony (by which we of course mean goblets, swords, and the like) before diving into their catalogue of 1950s rock western hits. Think Patsy Cline with a liberal sprinkling of black leather, and you won’t be far off the mark.

• “The Devil (Didn’t Make Me Do It)” (Doomed Lovers, 2026)
The band, who’s new album was set to drop the next day, paraded through their bigger hits; “The Devil” and “Sex Magick” featured early, before a longer interlude where singer Alexandra James polled the audience’s sexual experience as an intro to “Let’s Have a Satanic Orgy” and the slower dance ballad “Lucifer, My love.” Just regular pop love songs, nothing to see here.
Twin Temple is a rare breed, love them or hate them. They have all the visuals of a typical metal band – the gothic backdrops, inverted crosses, altars – but they combine that look unexpectedly with… Buddy Holly? Roy Orbison? Orville Peck? The internet has theories but none of them fit. There really isn’t much else like it, and we’re struggling to describe the show.

Regardless of our mediocre journalism, Twin Temple puts on an incredible show, and it shouldn’t be missed. Their message keeps you guessing, their crowd work is endearing,even their merch is on point. What else can we say, except that we’ll see them whenever they get back to Vancouver, and hex the patriarchy!

The Rasmus Bring Three Decades of Rock to Vancouver
After more than three decades together, The Rasmus finally got their first North American headlining tour. At Vancouver’s Rickshaw Theatre on October 4, the Finnish rockers made the wait feel worth it.
The night opened with Death Valley Dreams and Saint Agnes, both setting the stage for a show that leaned into the darker, theatrical side of rock. By the time The Rasmus walked out, the Rickshaw was packed and ready.
The band wasted little time getting to work. “Break These Chains” kicked things off with a jolt, quickly followed by a set that moved between the heavier edge of their latest album, Weirdo, and the songs that built their international following. It showed just how well the newer material translates live, bringing a heavier punch without losing the emotional side of the band.
Then came the familiar territory. “Guilty” sent longtime fans straight back to Dead Letters, while “Livin’ in a World Without You” turned the room into a giant singalong. When “In the Shadows” arrived, there was little left for the band to do but let the crowd take over.
Frontman Lauri Ylönen was at the centre of it all, moving across the stage with a loose confidence that made the intimate room feel even smaller. Guitarist Emilia “Emppu” Suhonen brought plenty of bite, Eero Heinonen anchored the songs with his bass, and Aki Hakala kept the whole thing driving from behind the kit.
The Rasmus have spent decades writing songs about feeling different and finding comfort in that difference. At the Rickshaw, those themes felt surprisingly current. Old fans and newer listeners stood side by side, singing the same words.
For a band finally getting its North American headline moment, The Rasmus looked less like they were catching up and more like they were exactly where they belonged.
