On April 4th, Chinese American singer, Amber Liu brought her ‘No More Sad Song World Tour’ to the Hollywood Theatre in Vancouver, BC.

Amber Liu‘s career started in 2009 as a member of K-Pop group f(x) before embarking on her solo journey as a singer-songwriter.

As Amber appeared on stage with her signature blue hair and joy on her face, hundreds of phone raised high to capture the beginning of her set. She started with “EASIER” from her 2022 EP Z!. She performed a mix of hits like “Curiosity”, “Numb”, “Neon” or “Make It Better” along with unreleased demos like “Lasertag”. Two dancers were brought onto the stage to add to the polished choreography during “Hands Behind My Back”.

The more intimate setting of the Hollywood Theatre was perfect to experience the raw quality of Amber‘s vocals. She demonstrated throughout the show that she is a well-rounded entertainer: able to connect with the fans, hit all the notes and execute precise moves at the same time. She only set one rule for the night: be yourself!

Avenoir in Vancouver

Rising Canadian R&B artist Avenoir brought his Mirage Tour – Act One to Vancouver on March 12, playing an intimate show at the Hollywood Theatre. The evening opened with a set from Alberta-born singer-songwriter Jonah David, who warmed up the crowd with his 2-piece band before the headliner took the stage.

Born in South Africa and raised in Edmonton, Avenoir has built serious momentum over the past year. His debut EP NOIRE earned a 2025 Juno nomination, and his music has racked up hundreds of millions of streams. The Vancouver stop was part of a short run of theatre shows meant to give fans a closer look at the fast-rising artist before a bigger year ahead.

The performance leaned into atmosphere. Avenoir kept movement minimal, often standing alone at center stage as his songs unfolded over sleek production, including great saxophone moments. His acoustics songs helped strengthen his connection with the audience. The production blended futuristic R&B with booming 808s and dramatic arrangements that gave several tracks a cinematic punch. His voice has a smoky tone that cuts through the heavy beats.

The show felt like a young artist still settling into the stage. The music is already there, and the confidence will likely follow.
