On May 30, renowned American jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington brought his Fearless Movement Tour to the Vogue Theatre in Vancouver, BC, in support of his new album Fearless Movement, released May 3rd.

Kicking off the night was Peregrine Falls. The Vancouverite rock fusion band was a great opening act to warm up the crowd.

As the lights dimmed and the band took the stage, the crowd buzzed with anticipation. Washington addressed the Vancouver audience, encouraging them to let the music move them. The show began quietly with the album opener “Lesanu” and featured a selection of tracks from the impressive new album. The evening was rich with sonic textures and melodies, blending digital and analog sounds to create a captivating aural tapestry.

Each artist on stage showcased the ensemble’s versatility. Bassist Miles Mosley and drummer Tony Austin impressed with their incredible instrumental skills. Trombonist Ryan Porter and Kamasi’s father, flutist Rickey Washington, added beautiful moments to the musical arrangements. Patrice Quinn’s vocals were calming and soulful. Brandon Coleman’s performance was a highlight, with him and Battlecat seeming to communicate in their own unique musical language.

For the audience, it was a magical evening of music, embodying the spirit of “Fearless Movement.” Washington will be on the road until he reaches Los Angeles on June 16th so make sure to catch a show if he comes near you!
