On September 12, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard performed at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver, BC, proving why they are considered one of the most innovative and prolific rock bands of our time. With 25 albums under their belt, including 13 that have charted in the Top 20 in Australia, the band has amassed international critical acclaim and a fervent global fanbase that has built an entire online ecosystem—dubbed ‘The Gizzverse’—dedicated to their music, memes, and lore.
Led by frontman Stu Mackenzie on vocals and guitar, the band also features Ambrose Kenny-Smith (harmonica/vocals/keyboards), Cook Craig (guitar/vocals), Joey Walker (guitar/vocals), Lucas Harwood (bass), and Michael Cavanagh (drums). Together, they crafted a set that spanned their eclectic discography, blending genres like psychedelic rock, heavy metal, and progressive jazz in a seamless and electrifying manner.
Highlights of the night included “Nuclear Fusion” with a fan picked from the pit doing the vocal intro and crowd favourite “Iron Lung,” where the band’s signature hypnotic rhythms and complex time signatures were on full display. The group’s dynamic chemistry and tight musicianship kept the audience engaged, moshing and crowdsurfing, as they navigated through extended jams with ease. The visuals—psychedelic projections that matched the intensity of the music—added to the immersive experience.
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard will continue their USA/Canada tour until the end of November so make sure to catch a show if you can. More info on the band’s website.
