flipturn at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver

Published

on

On August 11, 2025, flipturn brought their Burnout Days tour to a sold-out Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, with Sun Room as the night’s opener.

Sun Room’s sunny rock sound and straight-forward stage presence loosened up the crowd, drawing cheers from fans pressed against the barricade.

By the time flipturn took the stage, the atmosphere had shifted from laid-back to electric. They opened with “Burn” and “Weepy Woman,” followed by “Juno” bathed in flashing blue and white strobes. Unlike most shows where the biggest cheers are saved for the hits, the Vancouver crowd sang every lyric, word for word, to nearly every song. It spoke volumes about flipturn’s reach.

The Florida indie rockers wove through tracks from Burnout Days and their 2022 debut Shadowglow (including the crowd-favourite “August,” which had the entire venue roaring). Dillon Basse’s warm, distinct vocals anchored each song, while Tristan Duncan’s guitar riffs bounced between jangly indie pop and moodier, jazz-tinged tones. “Moon Rocks” brought a softer moment to the middle of the set, with the lighting shifting to warm purples and golds, casting a dreamy haze over the floor.

One of the night’s biggest reactions came during “Swim Between Trees,” a heartfelt track about reconnecting with old friends. It hit differently live, and left more than a few people misty-eyed. By the encore (“Churches,” “Chicago” and “Nickel”), flipturn were grinning as wide as the crowd, tossing drumsticks and guitar picks into eager hands.

Two hours flew by in a blur of sweat, smiles, and shared lyrics.

Goose Brings their ‘Summer Tour’ to the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver

Goose

Goose brought their 2026 Summer Tour to Vancouver on Tuesday night, turning the Commodore Ballroom into a sweaty, late-night dance party that stretched well past 11 p.m.

The Connecticut-based quartet — Rick Mitarotonda, Peter Anspach, Trevor Weekz and drummer Cotter Ellis — has built a reputation for letting songs breathe onstage, and Vancouver got the full treatment. The band played two sets and an encore, giving the crowd plenty of room to settle into the grooves and watch the songs take unexpected turns.

The first set opened with “Yeti” before moving through “All I Need,” “Turbulence & The Night Rays” and “Time to Flee.” “Everything Must Go” kept things moving before “Hungersite” closed the set with one of the night’s bigger stretches of improvisation.

After a break, Goose returned and launched into “Electric Avenue,” a crowd-pleasing choice that had the Commodore singing along.

There was little interest in rushing through the evening. Goose gave each section space, moving from tight grooves to loose instrumental passages without making the show feel like a collection of extended solos.

For a band coming off a European run and heading into some of its biggest U.S. shows, Vancouver felt like another strong stop on the way. The Commodore may be a much smaller room than Madison Square Garden or SPAC, but Goose seemed perfectly happy to stretch out inside it.

Chance The Rapper Brings ‘Coloring Book 10 Year Anniversary Tour’ to Montreal at MTelus

Chance The Rapper-Montreal-6

After 10 years since its release, Chance the Rapper is back on tour to celebrate his album Coloring Book! With Montreal being the 4th stop on the tour, many fans packed into Montreal’s MTELUS on August 15th, 2026, with no idea of what to expect.

First, the audience was thrilled by an energetic and upbeat performance by opener La Reezy. His quick lyrics and heavy instrumentals had no trouble in setting the tone for the night, specifically during “Gold Chains,” and with stellar crowd engagement during “We Live.”

Then, Chance the Rapper took the stage! With Coloring Book being such a staple in 2016, especially in the rap community, it is a daunting task to bring that nostalgic energy back on stage. But, with a 24-song setlist, Chance does just that. Unsurprisingly, half the setlist features songs from Coloring Book, with the set opening with “All We Got,” and closing with “Same Drugs,” featuring a confetti-filled performance of “No Problem” in the middle. However, Chance doesn’t shy away from performing a few hits from his other albums as well, such as “Link Me In The Future” from STAR LINE, and some older work in Acid Rap.

Overall, there is something powerful about hearing these songs a decade later. The themes stay the same, yet as both the artist and audience grow, there’s new meanings and emotions to be found in the lyrics. The anniversary show felt like a reunion for those who grew up with Coloring Book, and that’s what ultimately makes this tour a success.
