Saint Motel Brought the Symphony and the Party to Montréal

After an enchanting, jazz-filled opening performance by Stolen Gin, Saint Motel took the stage during a beautiful Montréal night, at Theatre Beanfield. Opening with a countdown from their narrator, the band commenced their performance with an iconic crowd-favourite song, “Puzzle Pieces” from their album “Voyeur”. The crowd roared, singing and dancing to every word of the upbeat opening track of their 17 song set.
The American band, who became popular for their hit songs such as “My Type” and “Sweet Talk”, continued their set, playing songs from their recent album Saint Motel & the Symphony in the Sky. This album was described as an album which “doesn’t forsake the instant tunefulness that launched Saint Motel into attention but imbues it with newfound subtlety and maturity.” The risk of a new style paid off, as the crowd sang along to every word.
With a band like Saint Motel, it’s easy to keep an audience cheering for more. The lead singer, AJ Jackson took the opportunity to engage the crowd by leading breathing exercises, and repeatedly bringing the show to the “next level” by encouraging fans to scream and whistle along to the instruments of their songs. Furthermore, during their popular song “It’s All Happening”, he instructed the crowd to hold up their flashlights as a “baton”, and “conduct an orchestra” in time to the music, leading a stunning display of community in music.
After the band’s roughly hour-long set, finishing with a 4 song encore of “A Bluer Blue”, which he sang from the second floor of the venue, “Sweet Talk”, “Van Horn” and “My Type”, fans left the venue with cheerful smiles on their faces, holding t-shirts and vinyls in their hands. Between a beautiful set and a stunning display of lights, to strong, powerful vocals and a mesmerizing backup band, it’s safe to say fans who attended the weekday show were well-rewarded, and had a wonderful night at Saint Motel’s symphony!
