Sharon Van Etten And The Attachment Theory Makes Toronto Feel Like Living Forever

May 6th, 2025 @ History Toronto
Sharon Van Etten made the incredible call to work with her band, The Attachment Theory, for her most recent album release, which is titled Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory. I personally have listened to Sharon Van Etten for years so this was a show I could not miss.
The night started off with artist Love Spells (Sir Taegen C’aion Harris). I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was so pleasantly surprised when his vocals rang through the venue. He has such a unique voice that is almost dreamy and hypnotizing, in a way which complimented his bands alternative rock style to create a super cool fusion of sound. I was personally blown away by his cover of Bob Dylan’s song ‘Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door’. There truly is something that was so mesmerizing about Love Spells performance and I cannot wait to see more from this up- and-coming artist.
Now time for Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory to take the stage… you could feel the anticipation in the air. Van Etten did not disappoint and had such incredible live vocals, and her stage presence was so commanding. I also was beyond impressed by Devra Hoff on bass, she added so much to the performance and I found myself watching her constantly. I also really appreciated keyboard/ synth player Teeny Lieberson; she created depth in the sound that you could feel throughout the whole venue.
The setlist for the night was also killer! It was a perfect blend between songs off the band’s new album as well as some of Van Etten’s solo work. They started off the night with newer songs ‘Live Forever’ and ‘Afterlife’. The setlist also showcased their range as a band between a more folky sound, to a darker goth pop sound. Some of the older songs played included, ‘Every Time the Sun Comes Up’ and ‘I Wish I Knew’.
Overall, the concert was just such a perfect showcase of the band’s chemistry together and Van Etten’s ability to connect with the audience. I was so beyond impressed, and it left myself (and I can imagine others) awaiting the return of Sharon Van Etten & The Attachment Theory. I can’t wait to see more from the band as well as their opener Love Spells on the rest of their tour!
